25 Things to Do in Fort Lauderdale

If you’re a list person (and you know if you are), then you are no different when it comes to your vacation plans. We celebrate the list makers who enjoy laying out all the steps or options and then checking off their list items one by one. Planning a vacation definitely takes some organizational skills.

So if you’re planning a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the coming months, you can use this handy-dandy list of 25 fun things to do in the Fort Lauderdale area. Remember that you don’t have to do them all, but this list will help you administratively gifted folks narrow down your options and make a more concrete itinerary for your Florida getaway. Let’s get started!

  1. Take a relaxing day away at one of the many day spas in Fort Lauderdale. Adults or couples can find some great deals on relaxing massages, facials, and other rejuvenating treatments.
  2. Test your luck at one of the local resort hotels and casinos, such as the Isle Casino and Racing at Pompano Park.
  3. Visit Butterfly World, the largest indoor butterfly aviary in the United States and all of North America.
  4. Snorkel or scuba dive along the 69 miles of natural coral reef along the shore of the Greater Fort Lauderdale area.
  5. Kayak through narrow inlets lined with mangrove trees at the Anne Kolb Nature Center.
  6. Go fishing at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park.
  7. Sample food from all over the world at the restaurants on Las Olas Boulevard.
  8. Go dancing at one of the many nightclubs and live music venues in the city.
  9. Rent a jetski at Pompano Beach, just down the shore from Fort Lauderdale Beach.
  10. Make a picnic lunch and share it with your friends or family on one of the Fort Lauderdale area’s Blue Wave beaches.
  11. Take a gondola ride through the Intracoastal Waterways that run throughout much of Fort Lauderdale, making it the “Venice of America.”
  12. Join the latest watersport craze and rent a paddleboard, a water sport that seems to combine paddling with surfing. Try something new!
  13. Get educational with your kids at the Museum of Discovery & Science in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
  14. Make a day trip to Orlando to enjoy the Disney World theme park or Universal Studios Orlando, which features the new “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” area.
  15. Explore the Everglades on a jet boat tour or by kayaking tour. You definitely don’t want to be this close to the Everglades without seeing them for yourself.
  16. Check out the local and exotic wildlife at the Flamingo Gardens and Wray Botanical Collection. You can, of course, see flamingos as well as alligators, exotic birds, panthers, bob cats, and much more.
  17. Shop The Galleria and be sure to travel there by water taxi.
  18. Strut your stuff at Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale’s chic “style mile” district (named by locals).
  19. Check out a show at one of the local music venues, such as Hard Rock Live or the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
  20. Discover the art galleries and cultural exhibits at the many museums and cultural centers scattered throughout the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
  21. Rent a charter boat and try your hand at fishing in the Atlantic Ocean.
  22. Spend an entire day laying on the Fort Lauderdale Beach. Be sure to bring along a good book and plenty of sunscreen.
  23. For great seafood, check out Blue Moon or Sunfish Grill, which are both top-rated restaurants in the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
  24. Check out the unique art exhibits and gourmet coffee bar at the Museum of Art.
  25. Relax! Being in Florida is all about getting away from the fast pace of life. So pick an activity or two that will put your mind at ease and enjoy!

Believe it or not, you can find even more to do and see in Fort Lauderdale, FL. However, this short list should get you organizational types off to the races and ready to plan your next Florida vacation.
