From August 6 through the 22, 2010, visitors to the Indianapolis, IN area can take part in a Hoosier tradition: the Indiana State Fair. The state fair has fun for everyone, including animal exhibitions, home and garden displays, midway rides, concerts, and much more. Plus, all of these great activities take place in the heart of Indiana, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in downtown Indianapolis. In this post, we’ll summary what you can do and see this year at the 2010 Indiana State Fair, plus give you some ideas of where you can stay during your trip.
One of the great reasons many Indiana guests and residents visit the state fair is its great fair food. You can find a food for every palate. If you are in the mood for something sweet, you will want to try an elephant ear, some cotton candy, or a carmel apple. Plus, you can find all kinds of delicious fried foods at the state fair. While a pile of twisty french fries or a fried candy bar may not be the healthiest option, you can almost guarantee they will taste great! So, indulge for at least one trip to the fair and create some memories for years to come.
Another great way to enjoy the fair, especially if you have kids, is to take advantage of the Midway rides. You can check the Indiana State Fair online schedule for special discount ticket pricing or wristband days. Even adults will want to take a ride on the ferris wheel, perhaps to have a romantic evening moment or survey the entire fair from up above.
The Indiana State Fair also has a variety of live concerts and entertainment. This year, grandstand entertainment includes a Rascal Flats concert, roller derby, a tractor pull, and even a rodeo. Other musical guests include KISS, TobyMac & Chris Tomlin, Keith Urban, Selena Gomez, Drake, Sugarland, and more. Some of the concerts and events are even free! (Check out the Indiana State Fair website for more detailed info.)
And because 2010 is the Year of Pigs at the Indiana State Fair, you will need to be sure to visit the livestock barns. Indiana is known for its farmland and its stake in the pig-producing industry. You can see all kinds of swine up close, sample some piggy products, and get to know more about this unique creature common throughout Indiana.
During your Indiana visit, we recommend that you rent an RV in Indianapolis. You can find many campgrounds in the area that are quite affordable and comfortable. You can choose from independent campgrounds or stay in your Indiana RV rental at one of the state parks in the area. Getting a motorhome rental will help save you money on accommodations, leaving you spending cash for the state fair midway or fried treats.
Come celebrate an Indiana Hoosier tradition at the 2010 Indiana State Fair. You can decide to make a day trip to Indianapolis or stay for a week or so to get to know more about the area.
