Family Vacation in Fort Lauderdale

by rlaurendeau on April 9, 2010

If you are looking for your next family vacation destination, then consider the Greater Fort Lauderdale, Florida area. Fort Lauderdale has a lot of fun family-friendly attractions and activities to meet everyone’s vacation needs. In this post, we want to highlight what makes Fort Lauderdale a great family vacation spot and give you some ideas of what you can do on your Florida getaway.

Depending on the ages and interests of your kids, Fort Lauderdale has many educational encounters and hands-on experiential learning opportunities you may enjoy. Check out the Museum of Discovery and Science  in downtown Fort Lauderdale to see all kinds of wild animals up close or to view a 3-D IMAX movie on their five-story-high screen! The Museum of Discovery and Science has more than 200 exhibits that your whole family will enjoy.

If you and your kids really enjoy animals or the outdoors, then you may want to check out Butterfly World, the largest butterfly aviary in the world! Or, another great wildlife-viewing and adventure activity would be to take an excursion to the nearby Florida Everglades. You can find many companies offering tours that cater to the whole family.

In addition to Fort Lauderdale’s great educational and adventure opportunities, you will likely come to Fort Lauderdale for its fantastic beaches and to play in the ocean. We don’t blame you! The Greater Fort Lauderdale area is home to about 23 miles of beautiful, sandy beaches. So whether you want to sunbathe, swim in the water, build a sandcastle, a day at the beach is definitely in order. And to amp up your beach fun, you may want to consider jet ski rentals in Fort Lauderdale. Just imagine you and your kids cruising the shore and enjoying the waters on this fun, speedy water craft! You can get a jet ski rental in Fort Lauderdale that fits up to three people, and rates usually vary based on how long you want to use the rental.

Despite how great the Fort Lauderdale beaches and other attractions may be, some people may still shy away from a Florida vacation if it seems too far away. We recently returned from a Florida vacation with some extended family. After surviving the 16-plus-hour drive to get there with four adults, two teenagers, and a 6-month-old baby boy, we would definitely recommend flying into Fort Lauderdale and getting a Fort Lauderdale van rental at some pretty affordable rates. You can find some great cheap car rentals in Fort Lauderdale, and the cost may be worth it to keep your sanity intact.

No matter how you decide to travel, getting to Florida and the Greater Fort Lauderdale area will be well worth your effort. Your family will thank you for a great summer vacation and may even want to make it an annual trip.
