Opened in 1988 as the first butterfly house in America, Butterfly World has become a favorite tourist attraction in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area and the largest butterfly park across the globe. Butterfly World allows visitors to walk freely among thousands of beautiful butterflies as they flutter about in a tropical natural environment. The experience is really quite awe-inspiring, educational, and a great Fort Lauderdale-area attraction for singles, adults, and families alike.
Located in Coconut Creek, Florida (only about 10 to 20 minutes from Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach), Butterfly World is unlike any other wildlife-viewing attraction or aviary across the United States. Whether or not you love nature’s creatures or the great outdoors, you will find Butterfly World to be a unique and memorable experience—a one-stop-shop for witnessing the entire life cycle of many butterfly species.
The types of butterflies you can see at Butterfly World include the Blue Morpho, Emerald Swallowtail, Queen, Papilio Ulysses, and many more. From bright blues to brilliant reds, you will be amazed at the vibrant hues of the butterflies’ wings as they fly around you. To help you spot the different butterfly species, Butterfly World provides its visitors with a Butterfly Guide you can use as you walk through the aviary.
Admission rates into Butterfly World are $24.95 for adults and seniors, $19.95 for kids ages 3-11, and free for children ages 2 and under. No advance reservations are necessary, and be sure to check out the Butterfly World website for discount coupons off the price of admission. Butterfly World is open seven days a week. Monday through Saturday hours are from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday hours are from 11 am to 5 pm. Note that admission into the park closes at 4 pm, but guests are free to enjoy Butterfly World until closing hours.
Another great thing about Butterfly World is that it is quite close to Pompano Beach and the other Fort Lauderdale beach areas. Likely, you won’t spend your entire vacation at Butterfly World, so you can take advantage of the many hotels, resorts, beaches, and watersport activities located just down the road from Butterfly World. You may decide that in addition to visiting this butterfly aviary you want to spend a day on the Intracoastal Waterways on your Pompano Beach, FL jet ski rental. Or perhaps you want some outdoor recreation and will choose to rent a kayak in Fort Lauderdale to explore the waterways and the Florida coast.
Either way, you can find so many things to do and places to eat, sleep, and shop in addition to Butterfly World in the Fort Lauderdale area. But, no matter what you add to your agenda, be sure to stake out at least a half day to explore the beautiful and memorable Butterfly World—a Florida attraction unmatched by any of its kind.

Butterfly World was wonderful, perfect day trip! We never made it to the area beaches as Butterfly world was entertainment enough for my 2 and 4 year old.
