Cliffs of the Neuse State Park

Thousands of years of erosion have carefully carved cliffs along the Neuse River that have become a North Carolina attraction for many years. During the early 20th century, people visited the Neuse River to see the cliffs by riverboat. You can see these beautiful geological features and much more at NC’s Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.

Attractions at this state park, other than the cliffs, include boating, swimming, and diving off the platform at the park’s 11-acre man-made lake. You will want to note that personal boats may not be brought into the park, but you can rent boats at the lake. Other activities you might enjoy include picnicking, fishing, and hiking. Although their trails are not for the avid hiker or outdoorsman (each trail is less than a mile long), they are easily accessible for a leisurely walk through a beautiful state park.

Cliffs of the Neuse State Park also has a museum that features dioramas and other interpretive exhibits that show the area’s diverse natural beauty and natural history. If you come with children and want to take part in an educational program, be sure to check out what programs are currently available. Park rangers often hold educational and interpretive sessions that your whole family might enjoy.

If you decide to stay more than a day at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, we recommend that you stay at their campgrounds. Located near the park office, Cliffs of the Neuse campgrounds includes 35 sites where you can either set up a tent or park your RV rental in NC. Note that each site has a maximum occupancy of either one family or six people. There is no water or electric hookups at any of the sites: however, the campgrounds do have places where water is available as well as wash houses with hot showers. If you are traveling in a NC motor home rental, you can rest assure that a dump station is provided within the park. Be sure to call ahead to make your camping reservation.

Located in Seven Springs, North Carolina, Cliffs of the Neuse is about an hour and a half southeast of Raleigh and four hours from Charlotte. So, depending on your departure destination, a trip to Cliffs of the Neuse could be either a day trip or a several-day adventure. For more information and up-to-date rates, you can check out the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation Cliffs of the Neuse State Park web page.
