Do you have the itch for warmer weather? We do, which is why we want to tell you about Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This well-traveled destination averages temperature highs in the 60s this time of year, and the air only gets warmer as we get closer to the summer months, with temps that can reach up to 105 degrees (and sometimes higher!)

Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA) spans over 1 million acres and covers a large portion of southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. Attractions within Lake Mead NRA include the two huge reservoirs Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, Hoover Dam (which created Lake Mead), and even a portion of overlap with the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. A few of the cities bordering (or close to) the Lake Mead NRA include Bullhead City, AZ; Boulder City, NV; and Las Vegas, NV—giving you several choices on where you want to stay.

If you are traveling with adults, you may want to stay in Las Vegas so you can enjoy the lights, sights, and sounds of this always-awake city while also being able to go to the Lake Mead NRA for some outdoor recreation. However, if you are traveling with a family or simply want a little more respite from the fast pace of the city, you may want to try staying around the southern portion of the Lake Mead NRA at Bullhead City, AZ.

Bullhead City, Arizona is close the the southern tip of Lake Mohave, which means you can enjoy a lot of watersport fun while still being able to enjoy other aspects of the Lake Mead NRA. While we recommend spending a lot of time playing out on the lake boating, kayaking, swimming, or jet skiing on an AZ waverunner rental, you can also go on a desert hike, picnic in one of the NRA’s many shaded areas, go on a scenic drive, photograph unique desert scenes, or take a day trip to Hoover Dam (about a two-hour drive) or Davis Dam (which actually forms Lake Mohave).

For all your watersport fun, we recommend that you take advantage of Bullhead City jetski rentals or AZ boat rentals. That way, you can cruise Lake Mohave end for end, taking in all the sights. You can find a jetski or boat to fit your purposes, how many people you have in your group, and how long you want your rental. Because sport fishing is quite popular at Lake Mohave and Lake Mead, you may also want to consider renting a fishing boat at Bullhead City.

You could easily spend a week or more at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, taking advantage of its many outdoor recreational activities and picturesque scenery. You might be hard pressed to find a vacation destination that offers so much to visitors, so as you consider warmer climates, be sure to keep Lake Mead National Recreation Area on your radar.
