Fort Lauderdale Beach Fun

by rlaurendeau on February 8, 2010

The Super Bowl in South Florida is over (congrats to the New Orleans Saints), but that doesn’t mean the fun in the Fort Lauderdale area has to stop. If you are thinking about heading to Fort Lauderdale for your next getaway, hopefully we can make a few suggestions to help you decide on some fun beach activities while in South Florida.

And let’s get real: The main reason most people come to Fort Lauderdale, FL is to get out on the beach and soak in the warm sun. Who would blame them? Fort Lauderdale has 23 miles of some of the east coast’s best beaches, including Deerfield, Pompano, Hillsboro, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Dania, Hollywood, and Hallandale. The Fort Lauderdale visitor’s website even say they are “Beach Chic” and have attracted college students, families, couples, and seniors alike.

But there’s much more to do on the Fort Lauderdale, FL beaches than sit in the sun on a beach blanket, particularly if you enjoy watersports. Here are just a few:

  • Go scuba diving at one of the many dive sites along the Fort Lauderdale beaches. You can check out the natural three-tiered reef system that is just off shore or the artificial reef placed in the water to attract marine life.
  • Rent a jetski at Pompano Beach, FL (one of the Fort Lauderdale area beaches) and make the most of the waves and blue waters. You can find jet skis for both one and two people, depending on whether you want to ride alone or together with a friend or family member.
  • See the Fort Lauderdale beach from a brand-new perspective, high up in the air, by going parasailing.
  • Fish along the shore either off a pier or in a fishing boat that you can rent.
  • Kayak either along the beach or through the the Intercoastal Waterways. You can easily find FL kayak rentals (for both one or two persons) along the beaches, and some rental companies even offer kayaking tours of the area.
  • Sail along the shore or venture further into open waters in a sailboat. You can rent your own or tag along on an excursion. If sailing isn’t your thing, then you may want to check out the many other boating excursions available in the area.

Our list of watersports you can enjoy along the Fort Lauderdale beaches could go on and on. We didn’t even mention checking out the Florida paddle board rentals, going boogie boarding, or even swimming along shore! However, we’ll leave those options for you to discover on your own.

Of course, all of these watersport rentals and excursion do come at a price, but if you’re wanting to try something new and exciting, it may be worth the extra bucks. That decision is up to you. We just supply the ideas on how to make your next Fort Lauderdale vacation at the beach an enjoyable getaway you will remember. You may even want to come back another time for more sand and water adventures.
