Winter Activities in Madison, WI

We’re going to take a break from the Valentine’s Day theme in our last two posts and turn our attention to some of the great winter activities available in the Madison, Wisconsin area. With only a little over a month left of winter, you may want to look into the Madison area if you want to travel to a destination where you can get a little winter outdoor recreation in before spring arrives.

No doubt about it, Wisconsin residents know how to do winter right. So what better way to take advantage of the remaining days of winter than to join in the snowy fun? With seemingly no end to the snowfall, locals and visitors alike can take advantage of some of the following winter sporting activities:

  • Ice skating – whether you find yourself a frozen lake or travel to one of the three city rinks in Madison, you can lace up a pair of ice skates and glide around until your heart’s content. You can either bring your own skates or rent a pair if you go to a ice-skating facility.
  • Cross-country skiing – the Madison area has several cross-country skiing trails for you to enjoy, but be sure to check out trail conditions before you go!
  • Downhill skiing – Devil’s Head and Tyrol Basin both offer snowboarding and downhill skiing options for people looking for a snow adventure and excitement.
  • ATV trails – one activity you will definitely want to check out is getting a WI ATV rental and hitting the off-road trails in this area. You can find miles and miles of trails in the Madison area, perfect for some backwoods, Wisconsin fun. Plus, finding a Wisconsin ATV rental is easy and relatively affordable.
  • Sledding – check out several of Madison’s city parks to find some great sledding hills, perfect for some family fun. Just be sure to bundle up and bring your own sleds.
  • Snowmobiling – whether you bring your own or book a WI snowmobile rental, hitting the snowmobile trails in Madison is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the winter snow.

And after you finish playing in the snow, we recommend that you warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee at one of Madison’s many coffee shops and cafes, located throughout the city. You can also check out restaurants featuring dishes from around the world and also a sure bet to renew your energies for more outside play.

So before spring warms up the air and begins to melt all that beautiful Wisconsin snow, check into a Madison vacation and take advantage of the many winter activities available in that area.
