Alaska’s Tongass National Forest

Attention all adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts: grab your hiking boots, a raincoat, and camping gear…but for goodness sake, don’t forget your camera! We are headed to the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, which offers not only a variety of hiking and outdoor adventure opportunities, but also some of the most picturesque landscape on the Alaskan coast.

From glaciers to a variety of wildlife, we think we have discovered coastal AK at its best. The Tongass National Forest is located in Southeast Alaska and spans across much of Alaska’s Inside Passage. Due to the shear size of the forest, we have found no end to what this vacation destination has to offer.

Here’s just a taste of what we have found in the beautiful land of Alaska’s Tongass National Forest:

  • Glacier hiking for the outdoors man or woman
  • Cold-water fishing at its finest
  • Countless wildlife-viewing opportunities to see Alaska’s famous moose, brown bears, and other indigenous animals
  • Kayaking on the AK waterways (trips ranging from half a day to a month!)
  • Camping at one of many locations within the forest itself
  • Visitor centers to learn about and experience the Tongass at its finest

And even if tackling the great outdoors is not your activity of choice, we have found no better way to unwind from the grind than to take refuge in the Alaskan wilderness. You may even want to make the trek to Anchorage, book an Anchorage RV rental, and expand your vacation to the rest of AK. Between the 17 million acres of the Tongass (the United States’ largest national forest) and the rest of Alaska’s beautiful terrain, you should have no problem escaping whatever ails you and reviving your soul in the solitude of the untouched and wild terrain.

So whether you are an outdoor enthusiast, ready to take on each glacier trail and cold-water fishing hub, or are just looking for a little peace and quiet in one of AK’s most beautiful locations, the Tongass National Forest may be just what you need for your next getaway.

And if you have made the journey to the Tongass, why not also fly to Anchorage and take advantage of an Alaskan RV rental so you can see the Alaskan sights without ever having to don a boot or a rain jacket. What better way to view the shine of a glacier cap in the orange morning sun than sipping coffee and wearing PJs in your warm motorhome? We’d argue that you’ll have a hard time finding a much better vacation.
