In today’s busy world, everything is planned down to the second – even our vacations. No matter where you’re traveling, you’ve got to:
- plan your vacation for a precise time,
- make sure you and your spouse can both take off from work at the same time your kids are out of school,
- schedule your flight or train,
- book your hotel far in advance,
- coordinate with a kennel,
- pack,
- find someone to water your plants and pick up your mail and newspaper.
Scheduling a vacation today is practically a part-time job! Plus, once you finally get your vacation scheduled and you arrive at your destination, all of your activities are also planned down to the second. Everyone has a list of places they want to see and things they want to do, and you’ve got to cram it all into the few short days you’ll be in the area, so an itinerary is a must-have for any successful trip. After spending several days trying to cram in the sites on your vacation, you’re probably relieved to be back to your normal routine! Of course, once we get back to work, we immediately start dreaming of our next vacations, when we promise ourselves we’ll really get away from all this stress and schedules and actually relax!
What better way to get away from our stress than going on a road trip? Taking a road trip has long been a dream of Americans – it was considered a rite of passage for many young adults as they prepared to graduate from college or high school, and has been immortalized in our culture through classic books (On the Road, The Grapes of Wrath), songs (Born to Be Wild, Born to Run, On the Road Again), and movies (Little Miss Sunshine, Borat, Thelma and Louise, and literally hundreds more!). In today’s high-charged lifestyle, road trips seem like a luxury we can’t afford, but they’re actually easier today than ever before!
One way to make the road trip more enjoyable (and put less wear and tear on your own car) is with an RV Rental. In addition to saving money on hotels and restaurants, you have the convenience of having food and drinks constantly at hand, don’t need to make pit stops (well, unless the driver needs a break!), and you have all the time in the world to stop and smell the flowers – literally. See an interesting road that you’d normally just drive past without noticing? Feel free to take a detour off the beaten path, without worrying about missing a flight or being late to some tour. With advances in technologies like GPS, it’s easier than ever to change your route and/or get back on track, without having to battle an inconvenient map as you try to figure out where you missed a turn. And if you’re one of those people who are addicted to their email, you can now get a WiFi signal in most of the country. At worst, you’d probably only be disconnected for an hour or two before you move back into range!
It’s easy to plan an interesting road trip through any region in the U.S. If you live in the Southwest, you can plan a trip to historic sites and national treasures, like The Alamo in Texas or the Grand Canyon in Arizona. You can take a fall-foliage tour of the Northeast in the autumn, or drive down the coast of California. And, of course, there’s always the option of taking that quintessential American RV road trip down Route 66! There are tons of ideas for road trips – watch for our upcoming posts on road trips tailored to specific themes and interests, like sports, crafts, festivals, and more!
