Fort Lauderdale is Florida’s Family-Friendly Destination

When planning a vacation this year, it’s important to keep in mind a couple of key factors:

  1. First – what type of vacation can you afford? Affordability is not something that any of us are likely to overlook; with the way the economy has been lately, if you are among the lucky few who can take vacations, budgeting is probably your number one priority. But just because you need to watch costs doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! There are plenty of great activities right in your neighborhood that are both fun and reasonably priced…which brings us to the next important factor:
  2. Are the activities you’ve planned family friendly? Whether you are planning a vacation away from home or local day trip, you’re probably looking forward to spending time with your entire family, so you’ll need to find activities that are child, teenager, and adult-friendly. Most importantly, the activities need to be exciting and memorable!

Florida is at the top of many of our lists when we think of places to vacation in the U.S. Sure, there’s always Walt Disney World – but what if you’ve been there already or are looking for something different? A great place to visit would be somewhere along the coast, like Fort Lauderdale. Located in Broward County, Fort Lauderdale is a popular tourist destination because it is right on the water, and is known as great place for boating enthusiasts. If you’re lucky enough to live in the Fort Lauderdale area, you already know that the city is a great place to enjoy water sports, thanks to its location on the Atlantic Ocean. It’s also just a short drive away from Miami, so visitors to the area can find affordable hotels conveniently located between these two major tourist attractions, plus a wide range of things to do in or between both cities.

As far as reasonably priced and family-friendly activities in the area, you’ve got a plethora to choose from. Of course, you’d have to take advantage of Fort Lauderdale’s location on the coast, and you’ve got plenty of options: parasailing, boat rentals, snorkeling, jet ski rentals, and many more! Everybody’s ideal summer vacation features sun, sand, and water, and Fort Lauderdale’s got it in spades! Your family can take advantage of the gorgeous location by planning activities that match each member’s interests and activity level. If you’ve got teenagers who are looking for a challenging and high-octane adventure, check out the jet ski rental facility in the area. Want to see Florida’s amazing coral reefs and marine life up close? Rent some snorkel equipment and watch the delight on your children’s faces as the colorful fish swim right past them! Been looking for a one-of-a-kind experience that’ll get your adrenaline pumping while being oddly soothing at the same time? Try parasailing! Whatever water-based activity piques your interests, you can find it on the FL coast.

While Broward County may be known for its awesome location right on the water, there are also many other things to do in the area that are both unique and affordable. If you are planning a vacation or day trip on a tight budget, you can easily balance slightly more expensive outings with free or cheap activities. One great idea is to spend a day checking out free or low-cost places, like county parks or museums. If you do visit Broward County, you should be sure to check out Tree Tops Park; located right in Fort Lauderdale, the park has all the standard park features, including equestrian trails, playgrounds, and picnic/grill areas (great for families on a budget!). What sets the park apart as a neat vacation spot, though, is their butterfly garden, marsh observation areas, and observation tower. The marsh observation area includes a 1,000 foot boardwalk leading to the Pine Island Ridge, which has the highest elevation in the county. It’s well-known that Florida’s wildlife is a unique national treasure, and Tree Tops Park is a great, low-cost way to experience it! Depending on your schedule and family interests, the park can be a brief lunch/afternoon stop, or a day-long event.

Just a little bit of advance planning can help you set up a fun, exciting vacation that can entertain every member of your family, and ensure a balance of high-action, distinctive, and calming activities – and maybe even sneak in a little education disguised as fun! Whether you’re looking for laid-back and relaxing activities, like lying on the beach, snorkeling, or going shopping, or are more interested in exciting and hands-on outings, like parasailing, taking in Florida’s distinctive environment, or renting a wave runner, you’re bound to find something to do in the Fort Lauderdale area that the whole family can enjoy!
