If you live in or near NJ, you probably know that Giants Stadium will be closing this October, and Bruce Springsteen is scheduled for several sold-out shows to close the stadium. Actually, if you live in New Jersey, you’re probably like me and had no idea Giants Stadium was closing until Bruce’s tour was announced (yes, Bruce, as in Bruce Springsteen). I knew the Devils had moved from the Meadowlands to their new stadium in Newark, but didn’t know Giants Stadium was being demolished this year. Not to worry, though – a new stadium is currently under construction and scheduled to open in 2010, so the Meadowlands will still be our biggest and best sporting and concert venue.

At any rate, Bruce’s shows are THE concert to go to in NJ this year. Since the Meadowlands is such a large concert and sports complex in New Jersey, it’s common knowledge that anyone planning to go to an event there needs to leave early, especially if they are planning to tailgate. Not only will parking and traffic be a pain, but you’ll also have to take into consideration the walk to and from the concert to the car, plus tolls, parking fees, etc. If you have a big group of friends that are all going to the concert, like me, than you’re probably trying to figure out how many people you can fit in a vehicle to try to alleviate these issues.

I’m actually looking into a van rental, maybe a large passenger van because I’ve got about 12 – 15 friends that are all planning to go to Bruce’s last concert, and we’re thinking that renting a van might be the easiest way to go. We’ll be able to split the cost of the van rental, the gas, parking, and tolls 12-15 ways, which is WAY cheaper than each person paying separately. Plus, it’s better for planning purposes – renting a van means we’ll all arrive and leave together. If we come in separate cars, we’d have to take a minimum of three cars, and since the odds of all three cars arriving at the same time and parking next to or near each other are virtually zero, we’d probably waste a good half hour on our cell phones trying to coordinate a meeting spot (”we’re by the blue SUV – no, the DARK blue one, next to the white truck!”). Plus, a passenger van rental will provide a LOT more room for tailgating.
Best of all, renting a van means we’ll only have one designated driver, instead of three or more! Maybe we’ll even consider an RV rental and just go all out… :>)
Once we get a final headcount (even though the concert is officially sold out, there are plenty of tickets at different sites online, so some people are still trying to get them), we’ll be able to book our van rental and start the countdown to see Bruce in October!!
